DST Toolkit for Adult Learners
The pandemic process has caused serious problems in the education sector as in all sectors. There have been setbacks in almost all areas of education, and the Ministry of National Education continues to develop and support distance education to correct this situation. In the studies carried out by our Van Provincial Directorate of National Education, it has been observed that the education in adult education institutions affiliated to our directorate is interrupted a lot. Lack of educational opportunities for learners, prevents their development in terms of both linguistic and creativity skills. For this reason, in order to contribute to the digital training for adults and their social and cultural activities they are away from due to the pandemic, it is aimed to create distance education material related to digital storytelling for the education system.
Digital Storytelling Toolkit is a pedagogical tool that calls upon learners’ creativity and helps them to “learn by doing”. In general terms, DST refers to a short form of digital film-making that allows learners to recreate a story relating to their field of study. Digital storytelling has been used in education and specifically in language teaching and learning for the past three decades approximately in Europe, however this manual is an innovative and modern resource in terms of its wide perspective and content.
This toolkit has five different sections on DST applications and adults' foreign language learning such as digital competencies, steps of creating DST, approaches to Scripting and Creating Storyboarding, editing image-audio-video and teamwork organization. With this toolkit, adults in the target group will increase their competence in many areas related to DST. This resource, which are the first academic resources to develop applications related to DST, will serve as a guidebook in scholar attributes.
